Default Mercenary Hero Do not Need to Remove Runes

I've tested this multiple times and you do not need to remove runes from a mercenary hero before you go to update his armor.

If you delete the mercenary hero, then add another mercenary hero with the same profession, his runes go back on to whatever character you had them on. same with weapons. even skills.

If you don't believe me, try for yourself. Buy a 100g rune and just put it on an armor piece. Delete that mecernary hero, and then re-add one with same profession.

Do note that if you change professions, you will lose profession runes/insignias. Other items will remain.

You still dont lose it permanently. You can reroll that mercenary back to the old profession and you get it back. Doesn't even have to be the same hero slot.

i.e.
1. make a rit, put runes on it. (slot 1)
2. delete rit, put monk (slot 1)
3. make rit, (slot2) ---> he will have the runes from the slot 1 guy.

Didn't work this way for me last I tested, (roll sin, delete, roll rit, sin runes gone but other items avaliable, delete, roll sin again, sin runes still gone) but it may have changed since last thursday (something about exploit patching). So are you basically saying that each profession gets its own inventory now? Wonder if that means there are technically 80 inventories? (8 mercs x 10 profession instances, i.e. rit 1, rit 2... rit 8, ele 1, ele 2, etc.)

As far as I can tell, if you delete a hero and make another in the same slot, that slot will keep all gear that is not profession specific.

So any weapons and offhands they carry wold be spared, and also all runes that appear in the 'common' tab in the rune trader and Priests of Balthazar; but not the profession specific runes like the +x to attribute ones.

Someone in my alliance was saying that, you have to rune the heros up everytime you select them on a new char, i would have thought with it being account based it would have saved any runes etc you put on them the first time, else that could get costly having to upgrade and rune there armor on every char you have.

The system for mercenary is identical to heroes. The mercs are not account-wide. Each character gets a copy of X mercenary heroes registered with merc NPC. So, you an customize them differently for different characters.

I'm not 100% sure. Perhaps people who have mercs can answer me this:

* I put a rune/weapon on merc Mac while logged in on char Anna. If I switch to char Betty, does her Mac have that rune/weapon?

* I put a rune/weapon on merc Mac while logged in on char Anna. I delete Mac. I recreate a merc in that same slot, with same profession. The weapon/rune is back? Is it also available for char Betty?

* I put a rune/weapon on merc Mac while logged in on char Anna. I delete char Anna. Is that rune/weapon kept on Mac for other chars?

The post above yours answers your question. Merc Heroes are the same as regular heroes. Items and runes etc aren't account wide on heroes, so they aren't account wide on Mercs.
